Summer Workshop Deadline Extended

Attention: New England High School Newspaper Advisors, Teachers, and Students.

The deadline for applications is extended until March 15, 2021.

The New England High School Journalism Collaborative is excited to announce that we will hold our all-expense-paid summer workshop for students interested in journalism for the 34th year.

The 2021 workshop dates are June 19-26, 2021. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the workshop will be fully remote, however there will be opportunities to meet with professional journalists from top news organizations, including The Boston Globe, one of our partners.

A college scholarship will be awarded to a senior who is interested in pursuing a career in journalism. Awards are also given out for excellent work. Every student will have their work published in our newspaper and displayed on our online site.

The work last year’s students produced can be seen by going to nehsjc.org/Vanguard/.

The program is intended for students who are from traditionally underserved populations from urban areas. Some preference is given to current juniors and seniors in high school.

They will learn to report, write and edit for a newspaper, and produce multimedia projects for a website. They will be assigned stories, do interviews and will be exposed to working on a deadline to create their own newspaper.

Students can apply now by filling out an online application.

Students will also need to provide a school transcript and teacher recommendation.

The New England Newspaper and Press Association will be assisting with the application process.

Don’t miss the chance to take part in this unique program, established by the late Carole C. Remick more than 30 years ago.  We are looking forward to training the next generation of journalists. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.
